Work
Work is the measurement of force applied to an object to lift it at a certain height. Work is measured in Joules and can be calculated with the following formula:
W=fd
However, the variable d actually accounts for the distance of the displacement of an object. If you pick something up and put it back down, you would have done no work at all. Force and work, and displacement and work are directly proportional, meaning as force or displacement goes up, so does the amount of work being done.
Review Questions
1. If Sanic suspends the 444N weight up at a displacement of 3 meters, how much work is Sanic doing?
1332J.
2. What would happen if Sanic was holding a 222N weight up at the same 3 meters?
The amount of work he would be doing would cut in half.
